up-sides:
Can be less gluten:Teff and millet are gluten free so are a good alternative for people who need to eat a gluten free diet.

More resilient and hardy plants:
There are benefits to farmers prepared to try and grow these grains as they are often a crop that will grow well as they are hardy and can be grown in a variety of climates,


Down sides:
less guaranteed yield 
It can be harder to get a consistent yield compared to new grains
